Sidebar Navigation

Choose which pages appear in the workspace sidebar, and in what order, for everyone on the team

Key sections from this documentation page.

Why A Page Is MissingIn The SidebarAvailable Pages

Sidebar Navigation controls the main workspace sidebar: which pages appear in it, and the order they appear in. Open Settings > Organization > Sidebar Navigation. One layout applies to everyone in the organization, so the team sees the same navigation.

Every page PawPlacer offers stays available whether or not it is in the sidebar. Removing a page from the sidebar changes where people find it, never whether they can use it.

Why A Page Is Missing

Two different things can keep a page out of your sidebar, and they have different fixes.

The page is not in the sidebar layout. An administrator left it out, which is a presentation choice rather than a restriction. It is still available:

  • On the More page, which lists every area grouped by purpose
  • Through search — press Command/Ctrl + K and type the page name
  • At its direct link, including any bookmark you already have

Your role does not include the page. This is a genuine access restriction. A page you cannot open shows a lock on its icon and a tooltip naming the roles that grant access. My Permissions lists every area you can and cannot open, and the roles behind each one. Ask an administrator to adjust your roles in Settings > Team Members.

A page can be both: present in the sidebar but locked for you, or absent from the sidebar and restricted as well. The lock is the reliable signal — no lock means the page is yours to open, wherever you reach it from.

In The Sidebar

The upper list is the sidebar as it will appear, top to bottom.

  • Reorder by dragging a row anywhere on it, or by selecting its grip handle and using the arrow keys.
  • Remove a page with the eye button at the end of its row.

Dashboard and Inbox are always shown and cannot be removed. Dashboard is the landing page after signing in, and Inbox is where applications and messages arrive, so neither is allowed to fall out of the sidebar.

Available Pages

The lower list is everything not currently in the sidebar, including areas such as Medical, Donations, Volunteers, Transports, Reports, and Documents. Select a page to add it to the bottom of the sidebar, then drag it where you want it.

Restore default returns the sidebar to the nine pages a new organization starts with: Dashboard, Pets, Adopters, Fosters, Adoptions, Inbox, Tasks, Calendar, and More.

Preview

On a wide screen, a preview beside the editor shows the sidebar as it will look, updating as you drag, add, and remove. It reflects unsaved work, so use Save Changes to apply it for the team or Discard to go back to the saved layout.

Mobile

The mobile navigation menu uses the same saved layout, so a change made here applies on phones and tablets too.

Permissions

Any member can see the sidebar the layout produces. Only organization administrators can open Sidebar Navigation and change it. Members who want a different sidebar should ask an administrator, since the layout is shared rather than personal — the personal display options are under UI Preferences.
