Tasks can be created from a board, a pet profile, and some dashboard quick actions. The available fields are the same, but PawPlacer may preselect the board, column, or pet depending on where you started.
Adding a Task From a Board
- Open Tasks
- Select the board you want to use
- Find the column where the task should start
- Click Add Task in that column
- Complete the task form
- Click Create Task
When you create a task from a board column, the board and column are already selected.
Task Fields
The task form includes:
- Task Name: Required task title
- Description: Extra instructions or context
- Board: The task board, shown when PawPlacer needs you to choose one
- Due Date: Date and time for the task
- Assignee: One or more people responsible for the task
- Pets: One or more linked pets
- Tags: Board-specific labels for filtering and visual grouping
There is no separate priority field. Use tags, due dates, and column order to represent priority.
Choosing a Board
When the board is not already known, the task form shows a board selector.
- Open the board selector
- Search or browse the board cards
- Select the board
PawPlacer places the task in the first column on that board unless the task was created from a specific column.
Assigning People
Tasks can be assigned to more than one person. The assignee selector searches across:
- Team members
- Veterinarians
- Adopters
- Fosters
- Volunteers
Selected assignees appear as removable badges in the field.
Linking Pets
Use the pet selector to link a task to one or more pets. Linked pet avatars appear on task cards and rows, and the task also appears in the pet profile's Tasks section.
Setting a Due Date
Use the date picker to choose both date and time. Dated tasks appear in dashboard schedules, dashboard task widgets, and the Upcoming view.
Using Tags
Tags are board-specific. If a board has tags, you can select one or more while creating or editing a task.
Create and manage tags from the tag dropdown in the board toolbar.
Attaching Documents
Documents are attached after the task is created:
- Open the task
- Go to the Documents tab
- Upload or manage files for that task
Task documents also appear in the main Documents area under entity documents.
Tips
- Use specific task names that make sense in a list or card view
- Add due times when timing matters
- Link every relevant pet so the task appears in the right pet profiles
- Use assignees when ownership matters, not just awareness
- Keep tags consistent within each board
