Add a Pet
- Open Pets.
- Click Add Pet.
- Complete the pet form.
- Click Add Pet to save.
The form saves an unfinished browser draft and opens the new profile after a successful submission. If the account has reached its in-care pet limit, the add page explains that before accepting another in-care record.
Default Form
New accounts start with these required fields:
- Name
- Species
- Sex
- Age
- Status
The standard template also supports alternative names, size, weight, breed, color, coat length, photos and videos, spay/neuter status, microchip ID, primary veterinarian, health, medical conditions, description, adoption fee, custom ID, intake date, and outcome date.
Species You Can Add
PawPlacer supports ten species: Dog, Cat, Rabbit, Horse, Small & Furry, Bird, Barnyard, Fish, Reptile, and Invertebrate.
The species dropdown on the pet form lists only the ones enabled for your organization, so if a species you need is missing it has not been turned on yet. An Admin can enable it under Settings > Organization > Supported Animals; new accounts start with Dog and Cat only. See Organization Details for what each species covers.
Breed, color, and coat choices adapt to the selected species. Age can be recorded with the available category, date, or estimated-age input, and the age brackets are species-specific (a nine-month-old dog is still a Puppy, while a nine-month-old cat is already Young).
Photos and Videos
The media field accepts up to 10 images or videos. You can upload several files, preview them, drag to reorder them, and place the best image first as the profile image.
Supported media includes common image formats and MP4, WebM, or MOV video.
Description and Fees
The description field can use PawPlacer's writing helper and remains editable before saving. A pet-specific adoption fee overrides a matching organization fee rule; leave it blank when the configured rules should determine the fee.
Custom Templates
The active pet template controls the form's visible sections and optional custom fields. Template administrators manage it under Settings > Forms. Organizations connected to Petfinder can also receive the applicable Petfinder fields on the form.
Bonded, family, foster, adopter, surrender, and donor links are added after creation from the pet's Relationships section.
