Transports
Transports help you coordinate the movement of pets between locations, whether it's from your shelter to a foster home, to veterinary appointments, or to adoption events. The transport system tracks drivers, routes, schedules, costs, and the pets being transported.
Key Features
The transport suite provides:
- Driver management: maintain a roster of volunteer and staff drivers with contact details, service areas, availability, capacity, and activity history
- Transport scheduling: create transport records with routes, drivers, pets, estimated times, actual times, costs, mileage, and notes
- Distance calculation: calculate driving distances between pickup and dropoff locations from the transport form
- Cost tracking: track base transport costs, per-pet costs, and total cost on the transport profile
- Pet assignment: assign one or more pets to each transport and link back to their pet profiles
- Driver statistics: automatically track total trips, total miles, and air vs. ground transport counts
Accessing Transports
To access the transport features:
- Select Transports from the main navigation
- Review the table of transport records
- Use the Drivers icon button in the page header to switch to the driver roster
Drivers also have their own Drivers navigation item. The two pages are linked from their headers: the truck icon opens Transports, and the people icon opens Drivers.
Transport Suite Layout
The transport suite is organized into two primary list pages and their profiles.
Transports Page
The transports table shows each transport's service name, route, assigned driver, transported pets, departure and arrival dates, and last updated date. From here you can search for transports, sort supported columns, adjust the page size, click a row to open the transport profile, or use Add Transport to create a new record.
Drivers Page
The drivers table shows driver contact information, service areas, active/inactive status, total trips, air and ground trip counts, total miles, capacity, and last updated date. From here you can search for drivers, sort supported columns, click a row to open the driver profile, or use Add Driver to add a driver.
Profile Pages
Transport and driver profiles use a compact profile layout. The hero area summarizes the most important details, and the page below it is split into focused sections for route, contact, notes, timeline, recent activity, costs, pets, and statistics.
Required Permissions
To view and manage transports and drivers, you need the Transport Coordinator role. Without this permission, you'll see a permission message instead of the editable workflow. Organization owners and admins can assign the Transport Coordinator role in Settings → Members.
