Before You Start
To add a foster, gather the information your foster form requires. Most organizations collect name, email, phone, address, capacity, foster preferences, housing details, and relevant experience.
Add a Foster
- Open Fosters from the main navigation.
- Click Add Foster.
- Complete the foster form.
- Click Add Foster to save.
After the foster is created, PawPlacer opens the foster profile.
Default Foster Fields
The exact fields depend on your foster form template. A standard foster form commonly includes:
- Contact details: Name, email, phone, and address.
- Capacity: The maximum number of pets the foster can care for at one time.
- Housing details: Home type, home size, yard or outdoor access, and household notes.
- Preferences: Species, sizes, needs, or durations the foster can support.
- Experience: Previous foster experience, current pets, special skills, and care limitations.
- Notes: Internal context staff should see on the profile.
Address fields use the app's address autocomplete where configured.
Custom Forms
Foster profiles are form-driven. If your organization has customized the foster template, the add page follows that template instead of the default field set.
Manage foster templates from Settings > Forms by selecting the Foster Form tab. Template administrators can add sections, require fields, sync selected answers into list columns, and include agreement or signature fields.
Public Foster Applications
When someone applies through your public foster form, PawPlacer creates a foster record with Pending status. Review the record from the foster profile, then use the pending application alert to approve or decline the applicant.
See Foster List and Application Review for the full review flow.
