Start From an Adopter
Adoptions are completed from an active adopter profile:
- Open Adopters and select or create the person.
- Add one or more pending pets in Pets in Their Care.
- Click Start Adoption for all pending pets, or Adopt on one pet row.
- Choose a completion method.
The Start Adoption action on the Adoptions workbench takes staff to the adopter workflow; there is no separate adoption-only person picker.
Completion Methods
Use PawPlacer Checkout
PawPlacer creates a secure session and QR code. The adopter can scan it, receive the contract link by email when available, or continue on the staff device. Checkout includes:
- Contract terms and the configured acceptance or signature.
- An optional donation.
- The organization's available payment methods.
Hosted payments complete after provider confirmation. Other methods use the appropriate external or manual confirmation flow.
Complete In Person
Staff enter the adoption date, payment method, editable adoption fee, optional donation, and a check number when applicable. Use this path when terms and payment have already been handled outside checkout.
What Completion Creates
PawPlacer:
- Creates an adoption receipt record.
- Changes the selected pets to Adopted.
- Completes any active foster placement for those pets.
- Moves the adopter-pet relationships from pending to adopted.
- Stores payment and signed-contract information captured by the selected flow.
Adoption Receipt
The receipt console includes:
- Metrics for finalized date, verified paid, placed pets, and follow-ups.
- Placed Pets, Payment Ledger, Follow-up Plan, and Receipt Notes.
- A full Documents tab.
- Adopter, transaction, payment-method, signature, and pet facts in the left rail.
- Activity and Team Notes in the right context column.
- Print Report and Download Summary in the toolbar.
Adoptions Workbench
Open Adoptions to search adopter, email, pet, or microchip. Filter by species, payment method, or date range, and sort by recently updated, newest, adopter name, highest fee, or highest donation.
