Understanding Public Adoption Links
Public adoption links let adopters complete checkout without a PawPlacer account. They can review terms, choose an optional donation, and complete payment from their own device.
Create a Public Adoption Link
- Open an active adopter profile.
- Make sure the adopter has at least one pending pet.
- Click Start Adoption or Adopt on a specific pending pet card.
- Choose Use PawPlacer Checkout.
- Use the QR code modal to let the adopter scan the session, copy the public URL, or continue on the current device.
Starting from Start Adoption includes all pending pets. Starting from an individual pet card includes that pet.
Adopter Checkout Steps
The public checkout flow includes:
- Terms: The adopter reviews and agrees to your adoption terms.
- Donation: The adopter can choose a preset donation, enter a custom donation, or skip.
- Payment: The adopter reviews the fee, donation, and available payment methods, then completes payment or confirms an offline method.
Available payment methods depend on your settings and Stripe/payment configuration.
Monitoring Progress
Keep the QR code modal open while the adopter checks out. PawPlacer watches the adoption session and updates the staff view when checkout completes or the session is cancelled.
If the adopter cannot complete checkout, cancel the session and start a new one from the adopter profile.
Session Expiry
Public adoption sessions expire automatically. When a session expires, start a new adoption checkout from the adopter profile.
