Understanding Adoption History
Adoption history shows how an adopter has moved from interest to completed adoptions and, when needed, returns. PawPlacer keeps this history visible on adopter profiles, pet profiles, and adoption records.
History on the Adopter Profile
Open an adopter profile and review Pets in Their Care.
Pet cards show:
- Pending pets the adopter is interested in.
- Adopted pets successfully adopted by the adopter.
- Returned pets that were adopted and later returned.
- Adoption fee badges when fees are set.
- Adoption date and microchip ID when available.
The profile hero also summarizes adopted pet count and pending pet count.
Activity Timeline
The adopter profile's Activity Timeline includes recent status changes, meet-and-greets, adoption records, documents, and profile creation. Adoption timeline items link to adoption records when available.
History on Pet Profiles
Pet profiles preserve adoption relationships and status history from the pet's perspective. Use the pet profile and related adoption records to review previous adopters, returns, and current adopter context.
Returns
When a pet is returned:
- The return is recorded on the adoption record.
- Return date and reason are preserved.
- The pet can move back into an available or configured return status.
- The adopter profile shows the pet as returned.
Process real returns from the adoption record so the return history stays tied to payment and receipt context. See Processing Returns.
Adoption Records
Open Adoptions to review completed and pending adoption records. Each record includes the adopter, pets, payment summary, payment ledger, follow-up tracking, receipt actions, documents, team notes, and return tools.
