Open Settings > Microchips and choose Add Microchip, or start the process from a pet record.
1. Create the Registration
Choose the pet and enter its 9-, 10-, or 15-digit microchip number. The form copies supported pet details from the PawPlacer record and lets you review or complete:
- Pet name, sex, birth date, breed, and colors
- Optional promotion code and notes
- Owner name, email, phone numbers, and mailing address
- PetLink terms acceptance and newsletter choice
For owner information, choose:
- Manual to enter the details directly.
- Adopter to prefill from an adopter record.
- Foster to prefill from a foster record.
Review the prefilled information before saving. The form warns when the microchip is already associated with another PawPlacer pet.
2. Validate
Open the saved registration and choose Validate Microchip. PetLink checks the number, whether it is already registered, and whether it is prepaid or requires payment.
The result moves the record to one of these states:
- Ready to Submit when the chip can continue to registration.
- Transfer Required when PetLink identifies an existing registration that may be eligible for transfer.
- Error when PetLink rejects the request or the connection fails.
The detail page displays PetLink's response, including payment or promotion information when returned. Validate Owner is also available when you want to check whether the owner's email already belongs to a PetLink account.
3. Submit
Review the Pet and Owner panels, then choose Submit to PetLink. For a transfer, the action is Submit Transfer.
Submission creates or links the owner's PetLink account and registers the chip to that owner. If PetLink returned a payment requirement, submit when the details are correct and then review the returned payment information.
After a successful submission, the status becomes Registered. Pet and owner registration details are locked in PawPlacer; make later registry changes through PetLink.
Editing or Deleting
Draft and error records can be edited or deleted. Registered records cannot be edited or deleted from PawPlacer. If a transfer or correction is rejected, update the draftable record when possible, revalidate it, and submit again.
