Events and Tasks on the Dashboard

Review upcoming events and tasks from Classic view, Widgets view, and task side panels

Understanding Events and Tasks

PawPlacer uses two types of scheduled items:

  • Events: External-facing activities like adoption events, meet-and-greets, or fundraisers
  • Tasks: Internal organization operations like feeding schedules, medical care, or administrative work

Both can appear on the Dashboard, depending on your selected dashboard view and enabled widgets.

Events in Classic View

In Classic view, events appear in the Schedule View. Event colors come from the event record.

To view event details:

  1. Click an event in the Schedule View
  2. Review or edit it in the Event dialog

The event dialog shows:

  • Event name and description
  • Date, start time, and end time
  • Event type and status
  • Location information
  • Public visibility setting

Available actions:

  • Edit: Update any event information
  • Delete: Remove the event entirely

To create new events, open More Features → Events from the main navigation.

Tasks in Classic View

Tasks appear in the Classic dashboard's Schedule View and Today's Tasks panel. Task colors come from their tags when tag colors are available.

To view task details:

  1. Click any task in the Schedule View
  2. Or click a task in Today's Tasks
  3. The task side panel opens

The task side panel shows three tabs:

  • Details: Task name, description, due date, assignees, associated pets, and tags
  • Documents: Files attached to the task
  • Comments: Notes and discussion from your team

Available actions:

  • Mark Completed: Toggle the task between active and completed using the checkmark button in the side panel header
  • Archive: Move the task to archived status using the archive button in the side panel header
  • Edit: Modify any task details on the Details tab
  • Delete: Remove the task from the task actions menu
  • Duplicate: Copy for similar or recurring tasks via the three-dot menu

To create new tasks, open Tasks from the main navigation.

Tasks in Widgets View

In Widgets view, task-related widgets can show your tasks, overdue tasks, all tasks, or pet care work depending on your layout. Click a task in a widget to open the task side panel directly.

Use Customize to add, remove, resize, or reorder task widgets.

Today's Tasks Panel

The Today's Tasks panel appears in the upper-right section of Classic view. Each task shows its name and due time, sorted with the earliest tasks first. The list automatically filters to tasks due today.

If you don't have tasks scheduled for today, you'll see an empty state. To add tasks, open Tasks, create tasks with today's due date, and they will appear automatically.

Visual Organization

Color coding helps identify items quickly:

  • Events: Use the event color
  • Task colors: Determined by their tags
  • Each tag has its own color
  • Colors help categorize task types
  • Set up tags from the task board tools

Finding Items Across Time

From the dashboard:

  1. Use arrow buttons to navigate weeks
  2. Use Quick Search to find items by name
  3. Search results show upcoming items from any date

For comprehensive management:

  • Events: Full event history and creation
  • Tasks: Complete task board management and organization

Best Practices

Daily workflow:

  • Start by reviewing Today's Tasks
  • Check the full week in Schedule View
  • Mark tasks as completed as you finish them
  • Click items to see full details before starting work

Organization tips:

  • Associate relevant pets with tasks so you can see them at a glance
  • Use descriptive names for easy searching
  • Keep event locations and times updated

The dashboard provides quick access to view and update daily work, while the dedicated Events and Tasks pages offer full management capabilities.
