Reviewing Surrenders

Review surrender requests and link or create pet records

Reviewing Surrenders

The Surrenders page helps your team review owner surrender requests before any animal becomes a pet profile.

Use the List

Use the list controls to focus on requests that need attention:

  • Search: Find cases by contact or related text.
  • Status: Filter by Pending, Active, Inactive, Denied, Blocked, Suspended, or Training.
  • Due: Show overdue, today, next seven days, no due date, or all due dates.
  • Tags: Filter by surrender tags.
  • Sort: Sort by visible sortable columns such as due date or updated date.

The table also shows intake stage, priority, pet item count, next action, and updated date.

Review the Profile

Open a surrender to inspect the compact profile.

Review:

  • Contact and Home cards for owner details.
  • Activity Timeline for recent status changes, actions, documents, and profile creation.
  • Documents for uploaded files.
  • Team Notes for internal review discussion.
  • Surrendered Pets for animal-level intake records.
  • Custom Details for surrender form answers.

Update the Case

Use the profile status badge to change the surrender record status when needed. Use Edit to update surrender form values and pet items.

The edit form includes the surrendered-pets panel. Staff can:

  • Add another pet item.
  • Link an item to an existing pet profile.
  • Choose New Pet to create a pet profile from the normal pet form.
  • Remove draft items when appropriate.

Review Pet Items

In Surrendered Pets, each card can show pet details, urgency, reason for surrender, medical notes, behavior notes, and linked pet status.

Staff with edit access can:

  • Accept an item.
  • Decline an item.
  • Link Pet to connect an existing pet profile.
  • Convert to Pet to create a pet profile through the conversion workflow.
  • Edit Pet when the item is already linked to a pet.
  • Remove unlinked, non-converted items.

Pet Records

Do not maintain full pet profile details on the surrender item after a pet exists. Linked pets open the normal pet profile and pet edit form, so custom pet fields and shelter-specific pet fields stay in one place.
