Funding and Pricing

Why PawPlacer is free, how it is funded, what it will never charge for, and why it declines venture capital and municipal contracts

Is It Really Free? What Does PawPlacer Cost? How Is PawPlacer Funded?

This guide is the chatbot-readable reference for the public Funding Philosophy page. Use it for questions about price, cost, plans, tiers, billing, investors, and long-term sustainability.

Is It Really Free?

Yes, really. PawPlacer is free forever for every animal welfare organization, and "free" here means the whole product, not a limited tier that pushes an upgrade later.

There is no catch to find:

  • No credit card to start, and no trial that expires.
  • No paid tier, because there is only one plan and every organization gets all of it.
  • No per-adoption fee, no per-user charge, no usage cap, and no organization-size limit.
  • No contract, no required demo, and no sales call.
  • No ads in the product, and no selling or brokering of your data.
  • No lock-in. Full record and report exports are included, so an organization can take its data and leave at any time.

The one cost that is not PawPlacer's to waive: an organization that accepts online payments still pays its own payment processor's standard fees. PawPlacer adds nothing on top of those and takes no cut of donations or adoption fees.

This is possible because PawPlacer is self-funded and runs on modern infrastructure with a small team, so there is no investor timeline or procurement cycle that would eventually have to be paid for by the organizations using it.

What Does PawPlacer Cost?

Nothing. PawPlacer is free for every animal welfare organization, and it is free forever. There is no subscription, no per-adoption fee, no per-user charge, no feature tier, no usage limit, and no organization-size limit. There is no paid plan to compare against a free plan, because there is only one plan and every organization gets the complete workspace.

There is no trial period, no required demo, and no sales process. An organization can create an account and start working immediately.

PawPlacer never takes a cut of donations or adoption fees. If an organization accepts online payments, its own payment processor still charges its standard processing fees, and PawPlacer adds nothing on top of those.

How Is PawPlacer Funded?

PawPlacer is fully self-funded. It does not depend on venture capital, grants, or municipal contracts.

The founder funded PawPlacer so the team could build it correctly: secure infrastructure, fair pay, and the space to iterate. The goal is not to multiply capital, it is to use it well. Staying self-funded keeps the roadmap tied to the organizations using the product rather than to outside incentives.

Why Decline Venture Capital?

Investor pressure changes what gets built. PawPlacer builds what organizations need rather than what presents well in a pitch deck, and the roadmap comes from real use in the field.

PawPlacer will not accept funding that conflicts with animal-welfare outcomes.

Why Decline Municipal Contracts?

Municipal procurement brings politics, long cycles, and constraints that slow product work, stifle innovation, tire out staff, and raise costs. PawPlacer focuses where it can move fastest and do the most good: independent rescues, foster networks, and community-led shelters.

PawPlacer is built for non-municipal shelters, fosters, and rescue organizations, so there is no municipal or government edition.

Will It Stay Free?

Yes. Free access is a commitment, not a promotion.

The model that protects it: a small team of exceptional builders, modern infrastructure that does not carry heavy maintenance overhead, no venture timeline to service, and no procurement cycle to fund. PawPlacer invests in reliability, security, and maintainability rather than vanity features or deadlines set for return-on-investment optics.

How PawPlacer Makes Money Without Charging Organizations

PawPlacer does not sell or share user data, ever. It does not serve ads inside the product, does not broker data, and does not use adopter, foster, volunteer, donor, shelter, or pet records for third-party marketing or ad targeting. Data collected from adopters, fosters, and volunteers remains the organization's and under its control.

No Lock-In

Organizations can leave at any time with their data intact. There are no long-term contracts and no exit traps.

  • Export data in CSV format whenever and as often as needed.
  • Manage team access independently, without asking PawPlacer.
  • Retrieve pet, adopter, foster, adoption fee, contract, and custom field data through the first-party SDK and REST API.

How the Team Works

A small team of exceptional builders keeps the product focused. PawPlacer offers autonomy, top-of-market pay, and thoughtful benefits so the team can build secure, reliable software. There are no committees and no red tape: the team ships often and iterates on direct feedback from shelter teams and fosters.
