The PetLink integration connects a PetLink Animal Professional account to PawPlacer's microchip workflow. Administrators, Pet Managers, and Developers can manage it from Settings > Microchips.
Connect the Account
Enter the PetLink email and password, then optionally provide the shelter or veterinarian IDs and emails associated with the account. Select Test Connection.
The result identifies the PetLink profiles available to the credentials and reports their API and payment capabilities. Save the connection after the test succeeds. A blank password while editing keeps the stored password.
Create a Registration
- Select Add Microchip.
- Choose the PawPlacer pet and enter the chip number.
- Review the PetLink pet fields.
- Enter owner details manually or prefill them from an adopter or foster.
- Accept the terms and save.
The record begins in Pending Validation. It can be edited while it is a draft.
Validate
Validation checks:
- The microchip format
- PetLink's current chip information
- The owner information
- Whether a registration already exists
- Prepaid and payment metadata
If the chip is not prepaid, PawPlacer can still continue after validation. Review any amount, currency, due-now flag, payment ID, or promotion PetLink returns. Submit when the details are correct, then complete any required payment follow-up in PetLink.
Submit or Transfer
A validated record becomes Ready to Submit. Submission creates or locates the PetLink owner and associates the pet with that owner.
If PetLink reports an existing registration, the record can enter Transfer Required. Review the existing-registration guidance, validate the intended owner, and submit the transfer when the workflow allows it. Do not create a duplicate registration to bypass a transfer.

Submitted records are locked. Draft and error records can be edited or deleted.
Troubleshooting
- Connection test fails: Confirm this is a PetLink Animal Professional account with API access.
- Owner validation fails: Correct the owner email, phone, and address before retrying.
- Payment is due: Review the PetLink response details and follow up through PetLink.
- Already registered: Follow the transfer workflow and PetLink's ownership guidance.
- Submission fails: Open the detail record, read the latest error and response, correct eligible fields, and revalidate.
PawPlacer stores the credentials for the integration and records the PetLink response needed to audit the workflow. Limit Microchips access to the roles that manage registrations.
