Manage Channels

Authorized team members can manage a conversation from the combined people button in its header. The button shows the participant count and opens a focused dialog for people, channel settings, and governance.

Manage Teammates

Open the people button to:

  • Review participant names and email addresses
  • See who created the conversation
  • Add available organization members
  • Remove a participant who is not the creator
  • Update the membership of a group direct message

Adding someone gives them access to the conversation's available history. Remove people promptly when they should no longer have access.

Rename and Describe a Channel

Open the Channel tab to change the channel name or description. Use a short, recognizable name and a description that explains what belongs there.

The description appears in the conversation header, which helps new participants understand the purpose before posting.

Make a Channel Private

Turn on Make private to label the channel as private. A lock icon identifies private channels in the sidebar and header.

Conversation membership controls who can find and open the channel, regardless of this label. Review the participant list and add or remove teammates explicitly; the private label does not replace careful handling of sensitive information.

Transfer Ownership

The conversation creator can transfer channel ownership to another current participant. Open Select a new owner and choose the teammate who should manage the channel.

Transfer ownership before the current owner leaves the conversation or organization so the channel continues to have a clear manager.

Archive, Restore, or Leave

Use the conversation more-actions menu to archive or restore a managed channel. Archived conversations are read-only and appear in the chat sidebar's Archived tab until restored.

Participants who are not the conversation creator can choose Leave conversation. Leaving removes that conversation from their accessible list.

Delete a Channel

Authorized owners can delete a channel from channel settings. PawPlacer asks for confirmation because deletion removes the channel for its participants.

The protected general channel cannot be deleted from this control. For routine cleanup, prefer archiving when the history may still be useful.

Set Notification Preferences

Each participant can open the conversation bell to control two kinds of notification:

  • In-app notifications show a clickable popup for new messages and thread replies while PawPlacer is visible, except for the conversation currently being read.
  • This conversation controls browser delivery for that conversation.

The browser delivery schedule can be:

  • Mute conversation
  • Immediately
  • Hourly digest
  • Daily digest

Choosing a schedule other than Mute conversation turns notifications on for all new messages in that conversation and prompts for browser permission when needed. Hourly and daily delivery combine messages into one notification. Use Send test notification to check the current browser, or Turn off on this browser to remove its push subscription.

In-app notifications include View message, which opens and highlights the source message. These choices are personal and do not change another participant's settings.
