Description
When the shelter is quiet and then there is the cracking open of a delicious treat, you will be sure to see Cecil Buttons coming around the corner. This darling youngster is very shy and came to us all the way from Dutch Harbor. He is very cautious around new people, loud noises, large groups and will most likely hide during busy times at the shelter. If he knows you Cecil will pop himself out, engage in play time (laser light, peacock feathers, etc). He is also very food motivated so utilizing treat training (even clicker training) is beneficial to building a relationship with him. Cecil will require a home that either has a background with cats with super shy natures or one who is willing to learn how to provide him with a safe environment that will encourage him to continue to grow. Cecil has exhibited marking behavior in the shelter setting. He does use the litter box appropriatetly, however with all the cats and smells, he will mark items. In a home setting he could be set up for success and our care team would be more than happy to walk you through the steps. If you are interested in meeting Cecil, we suggest you make an appointment on the weekend when it is quieter and have a better chance of a positive interaction. We would strongly encourage any potential adopter to visit him numerous times to help build a personal connection with him as well. It is of utmost importance that our shy cats are adopted to homes that either have experience with shy natured cats or are willing to learn how to provide a safe, encouraging environment for them to continue to shine. We offer support as we want each transition to be successful and smooth.
