We understand that surrendering a pet is a difficult decision. These terms outline the surrender process and ensure we have the information needed to provide the best care for your pet.
Surrender Process Requirements
You must provide valid government-issued ID and proof of ownership or care responsibility for the pet. All available medical records, behavioral information, and vaccination history must be shared. You agree to complete our surrender questionnaire honestly and thoroughly to help us understand the pet's needs and background.
Transfer of Ownership
By surrendering your pet, you transfer all rights and ownership to the shelter. You understand this decision is permanent and you relinquish all future claims to the animal. The shelter becomes solely responsible for decisions regarding the pet's care and placement.
Medical and Behavioral History
You agree to disclose all known medical conditions, medications, behavioral issues, and bite history. Failure to disclose known issues may result in legal liability. You authorize the release of veterinary records and give permission to contact your veterinarian for additional information.
Property Release
Any items surrendered with the pet (carriers, toys, beds, etc.) become shelter property. You certify that all surrendered items are free of liens or other claims. Personal items may be kept or redistributed at the shelter's discretion to benefit the pet or other animals in our care.
Surrender Fees
You understand that surrender fees may apply, as outlined in our current fee schedule. These fees help cover initial care costs. Fee waivers may be available in cases of demonstrated hardship. Surrender fees are non-refundable once the process is completed.
Future Contact Authorization
You agree that the shelter may contact you if additional information about the pet is needed. You may be asked to provide clarification about medical history, behavioral patterns, or other relevant details that could aid in the pet's care or placement.
Rehoming Rights
The shelter reserves the right to make all decisions regarding the pet's future, including medical care, behavioral modification, and adoption placement. The shelter cannot guarantee adoption or provide updates about the pet's status after surrender.
Alternative Options
You acknowledge that you have been informed about and considered alternatives to surrender, including rehoming assistance, behavioral support, and temporary care options. The shelter may provide resources for pet retention if appropriate.
Confidentiality
The shelter will maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding personal information provided during surrender. However, relevant pet information may be shared with potential adopters or partner organizations to facilitate appropriate placement.
Legal Compliance
You certify that the surrender is in compliance with all applicable laws and local ordinances. You confirm that there are no pending legal issues or custody disputes involving the pet.
Health and Safety Disclosure
You agree to disclose any known risks the pet may pose to staff, other animals, or potential adopters. This includes aggressive tendencies, medical conditions, or special handling requirements.
Liability Release
You release the shelter from any claims, demands, or causes of action related to the surrender and subsequent care or placement of the pet. This includes any future medical or behavioral issues that may develop.
Documentation Accuracy
You certify that all information provided during the surrender process is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge. False information may result in legal consequences and/or the shelter's refusal to accept the surrender.
