The average yearly cost of owning a cat ranges from $500 to $1000; this does not include unexpected emergencies. Are you prepared to handle the expenses of owning a cat, including providing regular exams and vaccinations? Do you have a contingency plan to pay for unexpected emergency vet bills?

All cats adopted through Mtn Top Cat Rescue will be up to date on vaccinations, but it is our expectation that you will continue to keep them up to date and provide regular veterinary care.

As part of our approval process, we require a virtual video interview with you, preferably while you are in your home. Do you object to a virtual video interview?

The reason for the video interview is primarily to be able to do a "face to face" meeting with a potential adopter. We also may ask to do a home tour, if needed. Many first-time cat or kitten owners find this helpful so that we can help you identify potential dangers in your home, like reclining furniture, loose or missing window screens, lofts with railings, etc. We can do the virtual interview and/or home visit via Facebook Live, FaceTime, Skype, WhatsApp or Zoom.

While Mtn Top Cat Rescue will be completely transparent with you regarding your new cat's medical and behavioral history, no one can anticipate how a cat will react to a new situation. What kind of behavior would you find unacceptable and cause you to potentially return the cat?

Any cat adopted through Mtn Top Cat Rescue can be returned to us at any time for any reason. We will ALWAYS take our cats back if it does not work out.

To qualify for adoption, you must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license or State/Federal identification card specifying your current address. Our adoption fee is due at time of placement. It is our policy that all cats adopted by Mtn Top Cat Rescue should be returned to the rescue in the event that you can no longer keep them. We will take our cats back for any reason, at any time, no matter how long ago the cat was adopted.

Terms and Conditions

Thank you for considering pet adoption with us! Our mission is to ensure that every pet finds a loving and responsible home. By proceeding with the adoption process, you agree to the following terms and conditions, which are designed to ensure the well-being of our pets and clarify the responsibilities of all parties involved.

Eligibility for Adoption

Adopters must be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid government-issued ID. You must demonstrate the ability to provide a safe, loving, and stable environment for the pet. This includes securing consent from all living in the household and, if renting, proof of permission from the landlord to house a pet.

Adoption Process

The adoption process includes a comprehensive application, an interview with a rescue representative, and possibly a home visit. We reserve the right to deny any application based on our assessment of the pet's best interest.

Pet Care Commitment

By adopting a pet, you commit to providing it with necessary veterinary care, including regular check-ups, vaccinations, and emergency care. You agree to provide a nutritious diet, fresh water, adequate exercise, and a loving environment.

Return Policy

If you are unable to continue caring for the pet, you agree to return it to the rescue rather than abandoning it or surrendering it to another party or shelter. You understand that adoption fees are non-refundable except under specific circumstances determined by the rescue.

Non-transferability of Adoption

The adoption is non-transferable. You may not sell, give away, or otherwise rehome the pet without the express consent of the rescue, which retains the right of first refusal.

Liability Waiver

The adopter agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless the rescue and its affiliates from any and all claims, damages, costs, expenses, loss of services, actions, and causes of action arising out of any act or occurrence from the adopted pet's actions or behavior. You acknowledge that the rescue cannot guarantee the health, behavior, or temperament of the pet.

Data Privacy

Personal information collected during the adoption process is used solely for the purpose of ensuring a good match between the pet and adopter and will not be sold or shared with third parties, except as required by law.

Agreement to Contact

You agree to allow the rescue to contact you for follow-up purposes and to verify that the pet is well-cared for. This may include phone calls, emails, or home visits.

Amendment and Governing Law

These terms and conditions may be amended by the rescue at any time. The adoption and any disputes arising under it will be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the rescue is located.
