Description

We got a call on 3 December 2022 about a dog that was hit by a truck. His front leg is mangled and when we took him to Animal Wellness, x-rays showed he had a dislocated femur. Doc Gama assessed him and believed he had a really good chance of recovery following surgery to put his femur back in the socket and perform an amputation to the mangled part of his leg. With cases like this many people suggest euthanasia and of course we always consider it. We do actually euthanize when there is no hope of recovery, we just don't post about it as its a painful decision to make which we carry alone. The amputation surgery was successful, but the femur wouldn't stay in place, so he had further surgery to remove the femoral head and let the muscles support the leg. The second surgery was successful, and he is now undergoing hydrotherapy to regain some of his mobility and help strengthen the joint. Despite all this, he is a very happy soul, and we hope he has just as good a life as our other tripod dogs!
